The Goal of Life

The Goal of life is Life!  More life!  Real Life!

No one told us, but from the very beginning we somehow “knew” that there’s more to life than this.

And for some odd reason, we have been endlessly vehemently protesting against ‘no life’.  We just couldn’t settle with ‘no life’.

We needed to have life, and have it more abundantly.

We refuse to be bored out of our minds.  Boredom is something we violently fight against with everything we’ve got.  We can be everything except bored.

We need to do something.  Be somewhere.

Live.  Enjoy.  Explore.  Achieve.  Succeed.

And the last thing we want to be is boring.  We want to be interesting.  Be the person who brings Life!  The person who brings pleasure, enjoyment, inspiration motivation!

We endlessly practice everything from mama jokes to imitations (voice, moves, drama) to somehow bring laughter, joy, amusement and maybe Life to this world.

But, how did we come to covet and crave so much of this thing called Life?

Who told us this is what we wanted and desperately needed?

Our souls.

Listen to your soul.

What your soul craves isn’t just another date, drink or drama.

And your soul craving definitely won’t be satisfied through any amount of time spent on facebook, youtube or tumblr.  Nor will it be ever satisfied with your time spent in front of your TV.

It will only fully quench its thirst when it’s meets LIFE!

You see, contrary to what many believe, Life isn’t a concept or a game.

Rather it’s a Person!

Not only is Jesus “The Life” (John 14:6), “in Him is The Life” (John 1:4) you have been and will always be craving for.

But the tragedy in our day, as it was in the days of Jesus is that we “refuse to go to Him for Life” (John 5:40).

So, we do just about everything to quench our thirst for Life except Go to Life Himself.

We’ll buy tickets and make time for just about every gig in town, but won’t take the time to Meet Life!

This simple truth will set you free.

What you want is Life!  More Life!  Real Life!  Continual and Everlasting Life!

And the only place you can find it is in Jesus!

Not Knowing What You Want

Read today that if the character in the movie doesn’t know what he/she wants, then the movie drags.

The same is true for our lives.

No person in their right mind pays to watch a person hang or chill through life.

If you’re not experiencing any kind of conflict in life, you are clueless as to what you want in life.

Conflict is the essence of a great story.  A great movie.

Often a great movie that inspires has a character that faces a seemingly insurmountable obstacle, a conflict.

Then the movie tells an amazing & yet inspirational story of how that specific character overcomes the odds, obstacles and reigns triumphant over the conflict.

This moves people.

Moves them to tears.

Stirs their soul for greatness.

Awakens an insatiable thirst for dream, passion & purpose.

You were born with a purpose.

You were created to overcome all odds & obstacles.

You are called to be an inspiration for those only you can touch & awaken.

Day 2: My Thirst

Bible Verse:

“My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?” (Ps. 42:2)

Challenge:

Instead of snacking at all today, drink some water.  Thirst is often mistaken for hunger, so allow yourself something healthy in place of junk.

Today, I read a story about a man who “burned down his house” because he took the batteries out of the smoke detector.  In his words, “I took them out because it was being so “loud” & “annoying”.

Hmmmm …

I wonder if we do the same thing.

  • Instead of working on our relationships, we bury ourselves more fully in our work, games, hobbies, facebook, sports, or television.
  • Instead of doing something for poverty-stricken world, we get uncomfortable and distract ourselves by going shopping.
  • Instead of turning off the stove, we take out the battery from our good ole’ faithful smoke detector and go back to sleep.

Sometimes I wonder if I’m quenching my thirst or getting myself more thirsty. Like the challenge today, I wonder if I mistake my thirst for hunger & snack myself all throughout the day, ever wondering, why I’m still thirsty.

There are times in my life where God is “beeping” to tell me just exactly what I need to do.  What I need to deal with.  Who & What I need to face.  Pouring out Himself and offering me a cup of the Water of Life!

But instead of heeding the “beeping” I find myself distracted with a number of other nuisances & snacking in all the other junk of life.  I immerse myself with all sorts of other people’s problems and dive into all the latest news & gossip of this world while all kind of issues that God wanted me to deal with are collecting dust as it sits on the very bottom of my “to-do-list”.

But there are those unforgettable moments in my life where I “Obeyed My Thirst” and drank deeply from the Fountain of the Grace of God.  Where the River of God’s grace waterlogged the dry, burnt, & scorched soil down in the deep recesses of my soul. Where Times of Refreshing came at the most desperately dehydrated moments of life.  These were moments where I set everything else aside, and sought the Presence of God and asked Him reveal what He’d have me do & for the will and the power to do it!

We’re all thirsty.  Thirty for real people, true friends, authentic relationships and meaningful life.  We think about it now & then.  But most of the time, we get used ignoring our thirst and just “move on” with our lives with this seemingly un-quenchable thirst in our souls.

Maybe today is the day we need to pray this prayer.

“My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?” (Ps. 42:2)

And get ready with our mouths Wide Open for the overflowing Fountain of the Grace of God to spring forth and Quench our thirst!
