For KAYAMM Graduates, CM Leaders, SMs and 20-Somethings

If you’re reading this, whether you like it or not, you’re probably a member of a small minority subculture known KASDA (Korean-American Seventh-Day Adventists).

I understand that you had no choice as to the kind of race, religion and family you would be born into.  But you are where you are because God planned it that way.  (Hint:  The faster you accept this truth, the faster you’ll find God’s plan for your life.)

So, somewhere along your journey as a KASDA, you’ve become familiar with the acronyms like KAYAMM and CM and SM.  And some of you might have actually gone to some of these programs and “gotten your feet wet”.

<You stepped boldly into the “river” and for the first time in your life, you crossed over to the “other side” of life and saw things you have never seen and experienced something that was literally “out of this world”.>

In the mission field and in the group of kids you were leading out, you were exposed to so much pain, discomfort, despair and tragedy.  And at the same you caught a glimpse of hope and redemption and how you could be a part of bringing that into their lives.

Some of you were wrecked, torn apart, ruined, devastated and completely undone.

For the first time in your life, you were introduced  to a way of life that didn’t revolve around you.  And it was so liberating.  Life was not about you.  It was so much bigger than that.  Praise God, right?  :)

You were awakened to the truth & reality of God and His Kingdom.

But sadly, this is how it ends for most people.

They catch a glimpse.  They get a sampling.  And they quit.  They return to the vomit. They return to a world that revolves around them.  And they never look back.  They simply  disregard everything that happened to a once-a-year-spiritual-high and return to a world of boredom and entertainment.  A world where it’s all about them.

It may be shocking, but doing outreach and going on short-mission trips like KAYAMM, leading out at CM and becoming a SM won’t change your life.  It’ll open your eyes but it won’t change your life.

Life change isn’t a one-time ordeal or a 3-Step-Program like KAYAMM, CM and SM.

Life change happens, when you take yourself out of your comfort zone and your self-centeredness on a daily basis.

Life change gains momentum when your old narcissistic dreams begin to fade in light of something bigger, Someone Bigger than you, again, on a daily basis.

Life change happens in the “real world”.  At your home, school and workplace.

What you get at KAYAMM, CM and SM is a tool.  A tool you must use daily to remind yourself that life isn’t about you.

A wise of that tool will daily prompt you to seek something far bigger than your own comfort.

And this enables and empowers change.

So, until next summer, I hope you will change.

A little more like the person God had in mind when He created you!
